| Q. | Travelers? | Related Search: Other - United States | | | I live in Oregon. I have met several world travelers that say Oregon is the closest to paradise they have seen. Diverse weather, without the extremes, beautiful scenery, etc. But the only other place I have been is california. to those of you who have visited oregon, what do you think, what parts did you see? Any recommendations? Other places you have been?
| | A. | Oregon is beautiful - I grew up in Walla Walla, Washington, just eleven miles north of the Oregon border in the Blue Mountains. I have a lot of family in Oregon, and the world travelers are right, it's gorgeous.
The rocky coastline is ruggedly breathtaking - peaceful and scary at the same time. The desert in the center of the state has a beauty all of its own, and is full of surprises visitors wouldn't imagine. The farming valleys both along the Willamette River and over near the base of the Blue Mountains are so picturesque that viewing them makes you feel like all is right with the world. The entire length of the Columbia river overwhelms you with the recognition of power - both in the creation of its surrounding majesty and creativity of its bridges, dams and sheer size alone; you can't look at it without being aware of the brute force of that much water all moving in one fluid motion. There are places in Oregon where you can stand on a mountain peak and see nothing to all horizons except endless numbers of pine trees - no roads, no power lines - nothing but trees as far as your eyes can travel.
I've been caught in blizzards going over the summit near Baker, I had an eagle smack my windshield with the huge snake he'd caught in the roadside barrow ditch near Burns. I stopped for gas once in Wagontire, population 3. I've been detoured due to a lake flooding near Bend, and found myself on 50 miles of dirt road where the beauty was so incredible that the photos I took then are still hanging framed on my walls now, 30 years later. I've been skiing south of Pendleton, and as a kid picked berries near Salem as a summer job. My family reunions are held just west of Eugene in among the trees, and I've stared with awe down into the Rogue River gorge and across the vastness of Crater Lake.
Oregon is eye candy, but so much more when you learn some of the history and get to know some of the people. I've been all over the United States, and there are many similar places to view, all mind blowing and awesome - but to be able to find all of those things within the confines of one state - your mind just doesn't want to wrap around that. From Portland to Wagontire, and everything in between.
There was a reason that so many traveled the Oregon Trail all those years ago - and most hadn't seen it, they'd only heard stories. Thank you for the pleasant stroll through the pictures in my mind.
| Q. | What do world travelers/vagabonds do about their financial future? | Related Search: Other - Destinations | | | I mean the travelers who work only long enough to get enough money for their next adventure. I am interested in becoming just such a world traveler/vagabond, but I just wonder what will happen in the distant future. If I work and scrounge only to travel and do not accrue any savings, what will I do when I am too old to continue traveling? Check myself into a Retirement home?
| | A. | vagabonds, by definition, don't give a good ------- about their future. They generally don't have anything, and they either continue working until they die, or they smarten up somewhere along the way, and start planning, often much harder, to have a retirement.
That is, unless they inherit enough from their grandparents to retire on. I know a few of those "Trust fund babies".
| Q. | How often do travelers run out of juice on their cell phones? | Related Search: Aircraft | | | When in airports, I am curious how often frequent travelers run out of power or juice on their cell phones, making it difficult to make phone calls. And then have difficulties finding a way to quickly charge their phone back up.
| | A. | Most airports have outlets if you look for them. Some airplanes have charging stations. Today's cell phones get a lot of talk time on a battery and businessmen often have a charged spare or two in their briefcase. | | | |
| Q. | what is a Basic Travelers Allowance for a Uk citizen to travell to Saskatchewan Canada? | Related Search: Other - Canada | | | My lady friend said she could not board a plane to come to Saskatoon Canada because she had to have 1500 pounds or 3000 Canadian dollars as a basic travelers allowance. Why do you need that to board and what is this basic travelers allowance?
| | A. | Can you say SCAM? that's all that is. If her flight is paid for and she has all her travel papers she does not need a BTA.
Do you personally know this lady? Have you met her? Did you pay for her ticket?
The BTA scam originated in Nigeria, and I would be willing to bet your lady friend does not even live in the UK, if she is even a lady, is probably some dude over in Nigeria!
There are some other answers in the forum concerning the BTA and they were all found to be a scam.

| Q. | How do 'travelers' in the UK register vehicles and driving licenses? | Related Search: Insurance & Registration | | | My understanding is that in the UK it is illegal not to register a vehicle or your driving license at your home address.
If, as I assume is the case with some travelers, you have no fixed abode or your vehicle is your abode, how do you go about registering these things and stay within the law?
Quite obviously MJ you are talking complete tosh. I went to the DVLA site before asking this question and there is no information presented about this.
For everyone's sake please stop posting ignorant answers for the sake of a few points.
| | A. | Visit the DVLA website they will tell you everything | | | |
| Q. | When traveling to a different country is it wise to get travelers insurance? | Related Search: Other - Destinations | | | A lot of travel sites offer an insurance package for a fairly reasonable rate. They say it covers the cost of lost or damage materials and you're also covered for medical expenses if you get sick or hurt. Is it worth getting travelers insurance or is it just some kind of scam to get more money out you?
Im traveling from America to Scotland. We are going to be there for two weeks.
| | A. | It depends where you are travelling to, but I would recommend some sort of insurance cover, check on-line to see if you can get anything cheaper. | | | |
