	I'm in the market for a 50" plasma TV and will likely buy the Panasonic TH-50PX60U model. Major stores like Best Buy and Circuit City sell extended warranty packages for $400-$500. Any thoughts on whether this fairly steep warranty is worth it? What does the manufacturer's warranty typically cover (the store tells me that it's extremely restricted)?
A.	Its not a bad deal if you look at what repair costs for plasmas cost. Consumer Reports does recommend extended policies on LCD, plasma, and MMD sets (DLP, LCD projection, LCOS, etc.). The reason is that some of the cheapest components on the tvs (fans) can cost around $400 dollars to fix, yet if something really goes wrong, throw away the set and buy another one. Ask anybody in the CE business and they will tell you the same thing.

	Panasonic plasma tv shuts down intermittently and would not come back up for a while. Recently, it shuts down after 30 minutes of viewing. Any idea?

	I do not have a upconverting DVD player . I read that that the panasonic will do this automatically . I do not know if my plasma is doing this or not .
A.	All fixed pixel displays will automatically scale whatever you feed it to the panels native resolution. Some are better at it than others. Most panasonics are generally pretty good at this, second only to the high end brands (pioneer, ect) This doesnt mean that some upconverting players wont do a better job, but most wont.

A.	Great choice to buy a plasma if you are into sport viewing gaming or action movies. You will not get any sort of burn as long as you baby your tv for the first 100 hours and not leave a still image on your screen for longer than 10 hours. Plasma TV's generally have the same lifespan as a LCD nowadays. Plasma's are to for 60,000 hours til half brightness. 100,000 hours of total lifespan depending on the quality TV you got. Enjoy your viewing.

	I have changed cable providers and had the TV examined by a repairman and told the tv is ok. The background is fuzzy at times and pixelated at times, especially with fast moving pictures. The tv is only 1 year old. Is this the fault of poor signal from the cable/tv shows or do I need to change my HDMI cable? Am I expecting too much of HDtv? DVD is fine.
A.	First, you need to realize that not all stations are HD. When you it is fuzzy, are you watching an HD station? Second, make sure your cable box is set up correctly to output 720p or 1080i. If you have a Motorola cable box, turn off the cable box and press the power button on the front of the box. This will enter you into the setup menu of the box. It can also be due to a weak signal. But, I am assuming the cable guy would have measured the signal strength.
