Is this true, and how is that possible, without breaking the law of physics?

1. Make the seat back thinner (less padding) now you have more room between seats.
2. Make armrests thinner, now you have wider seats.

| | A. | No offense to your first answer, but on flights to or from the Americas inc. the USA you are allowed two 32 kg. or 70 lb bags not exceeding 62 lineal inches (heighth+length +width). I'm not sure of the dimensions of a Balikbayan box, but you may want to give Cathay a call if it exceeds the dimension limit and see what their policy is, good luck.

| | A. | What they mean is that you can't upgrade certain fare classes of tickets, you probably bought a heavily discounted ticket, which is not upgradeable. You will get the same service and seat as everybody else in economy, it's just that airlines have so many different pricing schedules that you may sit next to someone who paid much more than you, for the exactly the same seat and service. If you look carefully at your ticket, there should be a letter designating the fare class, it could m,l,k,y etc., all it represents is how much you paid and what the restrictions are concerning schedule changes, refunds, upgrades etc.. Singapore Airlines does have a premium economy class with more legroom, but only on their Airbus A340-500 planes. You can always ask when you check in if it's possible to upgrade, if there's space available they just might upgrade you, especially if you're a member of their frequent flyer program. | | | |

Air Canada (which is the airline name your talking about) has re-furbashed many of their aircraft and the new 777-300 from SYD to YVR does have in seat laptop power.
beware, not at every seat though. If booking online, do this through the Air Canada website and choose your own seat with the power!
