Q.What's the difference between corn starch and corn syrup?Related Search:
Cooking & Recipes
I'm trying to make Turkish Delight through this page [Link]  But discovered I don't have any corn starch at home, just corn syrup, is there any difference or would it matter what one I used? Please and thank you = )
A.Wikipedia- Corn starch: Cornstarch, or cornflour, is the starch of the maize grain, commonly known as corn. It is also ground from the endosperm, or white heart, of the corn kernel. It has a distinctive appearance and feel when mixed raw with water or milk, giving easily to gentle pressure but resisting sudden pressure (see Non-Newtonian fluid). It is usually included as an anti-caking agent in powdered sugar (10X or confectioner's sugar). For this reason, recipes calling for powdered sugar often call for at least light cooking to remove the raw cornstarch taste. The composition of cornstarch varies depending upon the feedstock, but it may be considered to be approximately 25% amylose and 75% amylopectin. Corn syrup: Corn syrup is a syrup, made using corn starch as a feedstock, and composed mainly of glucose. A series of two enzymatic reactions are used to convert the corn starch to corn syrup. Its major use is in commercially prepared foods as a thickener and for its moisture-retaining (humectant) properties which keep foods moist and help to maintain freshness. Because of its mild sweetness, corn syrup may be used in conjunction with highly-intense sweeteners. Corn syrup is used to soften texture, add volume, prohibit crystallization and enhance flavor.

Q.How can one artificially to start a volcano?Related Search:
Earth Sciences & Geology
According to "Making an Island/Methods" on Wikibooks, one can make an island by the "Volcano Method" where " If an appropriate point can be found where a volcano can be stimulated by drilling or placement of explosive on the ocean floor, a subsequent eruption may form a cone of lava that reaches above the surface of the water " I am wondering about ideas and hyphothesis on how that may be done, all ideas are welcomed .
A.I'm looking at all kinds of areas here. The butterfly wing effect. Direct hits. Point and drag. I suppose an explosion at the stimulation point would do it. But I believe the points in question are out of reach for us. I hate passing the buck, but a great display happened in the original "Time Machine" early 60s. Without ruining the movie for you, there is a segment where man dropped the nucs all over the world. This infuriated Mother Earth and she answered back in her own way. Please see this movie.

Q.How do you make a link from wikibooks.org to wikipedia.org?Related Search:
Wikipedia
I've been doing some reading in wikibooks.org and have come across some terms that I don't understand, so I look them up in wikipedia.org. I believe that there is a way for me to make an inter-wiki link so that the next person would only have to click on the link if they wanted to look up the term in wikipedia.org. How would you do this in wikibooks.org?
A.To make an interwiki link from Wikibooks to the English Wikipedia put a link like this: Fencing in the article. This example is from the first line, NOTE TO READERS, in the book "Electrical Fencing Equipment Repair". OK, now lets break Fencing apart. First, note that it is an internal link with double brackets internal link on both sides. The link to Wikipedia "Wikipedia:Fencing" is separated by a pipe, or vertical bar, "|". from "Fencing" which is what shows on the page. Note also that Wikipedia and Fencing have a colon ":" between them.

Teaching
I am in grade ten (Ontario,Canada), and find the math extreeeemely easy. I know I'm young, but are there any good sites (free..hehe) that are extremely good at teaching calculus...I am interested in trying it out, even if I do ultimately find it too complicated. (I've already taken a peek at wikibooks...but I would prefer something else. Also it would be nice if the site offered pre-calculus as well:)) Thanks!

Wikibooks (previously called Wikimedia Free Textbook Project and Wikimedia-Textbooks) is a Wikimedia Foundation wiki for the creation of free content textbooks and annotated texts that anyone can edit.

Contents

[edit] History

Wikibooks was launched on July 10, 2003, in response to a request made by Wikipedia contributor Karl Wick for a project to host and build free textbooks on subjects such as organic chemistry and physics. Two major sub-projects Wikijunior and Wikiversity were created within Wikibooks before Wikibooks' official policy was later changed so that future incubator type projects are started according to the Wikimedia Foundation's new project policy. In August 2006, Wikiversity became an independent Wikimedia Foundation project.

[edit] Wikijunior

Wikijunior is a subproject of Wikibooks that specializes in books for children. The project consists of both a magazine and a website, and is currently being developed in English, Danish, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish. It is funded by a grant from the Beck Foundation.

[edit] Book content

Growth of the seven largest Wikibooks sites (by language), July 2003 – Jan 2008

While some books are original, others began as text copied over from other sources of free content textbooks found on the Internet. All of the site's content is covered by the GNU Free Documentation License. This means that, as with its sister project, Wikipedia, contributions remain copyrighted to their creators, while the copyleft licensing ensures that the content will always remain freely distributable and reproducible.

Wikibooks differs from Wikisource in that content on Wikibooks is expected to be significantly changed by participants. Raw source documents such as the original text of Shakespearean plays are hosted on Wikisource instead.

The project is working towards completion of several textbooks in numerous human languages, which founders hope will be followed by mainstream adoption and use of text developed and housed there.
