| Q. | Religion & Spirituality? | Related Search: Polls & Surveys | | | I respect religions, all of them. But i have this feeling that makes me believe that lots of the people hanging around the Religion & Spirituality Section, especially the askers, have issues, i m not saying that they have serious ones, but there's somehow something not very right.
Mostly i got the feeling of "there's no point of answering this" even if i have an opinion on the subject.
What do you think?
| | A. | That really depends on the situation and on your point of view. Really religious people or the opposite - convinced atheists - may seem different to you because the subject affects them much more than you think.
From the way you sound, I get the feeling that you are neutral to this subject. That's probably why you can't see things from their point of view. When you're really interested in something that controls your whole life or something that has a strong impact on you, you can't treat the subject as if it would be an ordinary one to you, which I'm guessing is how you feel towards this.
Let's just suppose that instead of Religion & Spirituality, the category would be focused on your hobbies. Whatever you would do, if you would ask or answer questions on that particular category, you wouldn't be able to sound detached. You would come off as very implied in the subject. And when you're part of something and so focused on something, you come off as weird, just like you see those questions. For example someone who has totally different interests than you do wouldn't be able to fully understand your behaviour. It all depends on whether you can relate or not.

r u randy....LOL
| | A. | Are you talking about the stupid ones like: "How many days did it take god to create the world and everything?" ...where people say six but his days are longer than ours because he's an infinite god and has no need for time.
..or the not so stupid ones that ask: "If he created the world as it is written, but his days were much longer than our idea of a day, how did the trees survive since they had to do without water perhaps for ages.?"

| Q. | How many atheists/agnostics can admit that religion/spirituality does do good in the world? | Related Search: Religion & Spirituality | | | That religion/spirituality isn't all bad and evil?
I'm an atheist and I can still see the value and importance that religion/spirituality play in the world. And the many good things that come out of religion/spirituality.
This question isn't just exclusive to Christianity, Islam, or Judaism; but rather any and all forms of religion/spirituality.
| | A. | Now that is a brave and sensible statement. It appears that you are not of the "all or nothing" philosophy based on pride and principle.I admire that in anyone who admits to what is as clear as day !!!
God bless,(and a gold star)

| Q. | How does your Religion/Spirituality support/contradict your Green Lifestyle? | Related Search: Other - Environment | | | I am an non believer but very interested in Buddhism. My Permaculture Ethics: Earth Care, People Care and Fair Shares support a green lifestyle.
How does your Religion/Spirituality support/contradict your Green Lifestyle?
| | A. | Essentially, most religions have at their core similar precepts. Do onto others, take care of the world around you, love your neighbour as yourself, share your stuff... That kind of thing. Not because we are all copycats, but because those have a tendency to fulfill our needs as the social creatures that we are.
We need other humans to survive, on practical, emotional, and intellectual levels. We are therefore empathetic, attempting to learn what upsets others so as to not tic them off and make them go away. It also follows that we extend that to other creatures, moving and not. So most religions are animist and communist, or some variant, or like the more patriarchal Xianity, 'guardians' of the world. It's really supposed to be the same diff, as it is more satisfying to connect with the world rather than dominate it, but sometimes the translation gets lost... It's basically only in the practice and mythology that religions diverge. After all, a religion simply would cease to exist if it did not satisfy it's adherents...
Current Xianity is of course against Green precepts, and has been for awhile. For many reasons, and is one of the contributing factors to it's decline as a world religion. (Thankfully, mass Xian conversions from other religions is a thing of the past. So don't let the numbers fool you. They are still going up, but only because we are doubling our world pop every few years now, and Xians get born into their religion, but usually don't practice it. They just what they call themselves on surveys for lack of a better term... ) Traditionally, in it's 'mission', Xianity goes into an area and absorbs local beliefs, or ridicules them as primitive or devilish and attempts to abolish them. As many of these beliefs are animistic and communist, as stated above, these principles have become denigrated, and even associated with the Enemy, as against the Human interest. God wants you to dominate and take over the earth, and get as much stuff as you can. The more you get, the more it proves God must love you, and not THEM. And it therefore proves you that you are one of us, and not like THOSE ppl, who are pagan and worship trees and have hospitality laws and don't let anyone, even Xians, starve to death on their front doorstep...
I'm a Green Witch, and have been all my life. (And yes, Xian diabolization of the traditional folk witchcraft of Western Europe, and others belief in that propaganda, has endangered my livelihood, lifestyle and family.) I have heard the animals and plants and spirits since I was very young, but in listening to the children apologise to objects when they bump into them, I truly believe all humans do. I just didn't ignore it as I grew up... Green magic in particular uses herbs to heal, and regards the world as a one entity, with humans, other animals, and plants, as blood vessels or skin cells in the giant body. We all have our parts to play, and no part is more important than any other. If our pancreas goes wonky, the rest of our bodies being healthy won't make up for it much. We'll still croak. So to with losing species or climate change. The Earth as we know it will still die, even if our water is clean, which it isn't, or our air is pure, which it's not... Hmmm... Kinda got away on me there...
It is a religious act for me to hang my clothes out on the line, as it is to never drive a car, or in making make herbal potions to heal myself and others, and firm vegitarianism, and never shopping at big box stores, and using non-toxic cleaners, as it is to fight homeless and poverty in my city by running for public office as a Green party candidate. My faith not only supports my Green ways; it demands them!
But Buddhism is nice, too....
| Q. | Is there a religion or spirituality like this? | Related Search: Religion & Spirituality | | | I believe that the truly spiritual part of life is in mere conscious experience of existence, and that that is why we're here. Does any religion, spirituality or philosophy have this view?
| | A. | This has correspondence to some Buddhist beliefs.
For instance, the Buddhists believe that personal experience is the most important factor in a person's personality. Credentials and titles matter little, unless they are backed up by an intimate familiarity with the concept.
In most cases, you'd want a doctor that had performed a surgery before to perform it on you over a doctor who had just learned how to do it last night (regardless of the other skills the doctor has).
The Buddhists are big on the "mere conscious experience of existence," which we call mindfulness. This is a large part of some active meditation exercises and other Buddhist practices.
| Q. | Is Yahoo Answers irresponsible for having a Religion & Spirituality section? | Related Search: Religion & Spirituality | | | This site is supposed to be about ANSWERS, not opinions. Religion is based solely on opinion, no answers or facts. So was it a mistake for Y!A to include an R & S section, since there can be no definitive answers when it comes to Religion and Spirituality?
| | A. | You're wrong if somebody asks a question and another person replies then that reply is an answer, regardless of its content religious, atheist or just plain gibberish. Y&A don't purport to have definitive answers on any particular subject and in fact do not even answer any questions.
