Government
This small town had to abandon its recreation program when two of its largest employers closed their doors. They have lost 25% of their tax base. The need for recreation is still there and there has recently been a large influx of spanish speaking citizens.
A.There are many government grants published on a regular basis for just this very kind of thing. You need to find someone experienced in searching for them and writing grant proposals to donate their time and efforts to your cause. In the meantime, talk to the county you're in about programs they have. Write letters to large corporations like Wal-Mart and other industries in neighboring areas. They usually have budgets set aside for community activism.

I would write a letter in the first instance and then follow up with a phone call about a week later, youhave to be committed to get the money. Q.What do residents in San Antonio do for outdoor recreation?Related Search:
San Antonio
Is hiking popular? Are there lakes for boating? Are there places for ATV riders? How far is the recreation areas from the city? Thanks.
A.The nearest lake with the full range of waterborne activities is Canyon Lake. Canyon Lake is a beautiful setting on the crystal-clear Guadalupe River about 45 minutes northeast of the city. Take I-35 towards Austin. Go through the town of New Braunfels and exit at Hwy 306. Turn left and go about 20 miles then look for the signs. New Braunfels itself is a great place for outdoor activities. It has two clean spring-fed rivers, the Guadalupe and the Comal that flow through it. The water is cold but it's a fabulous time. Tens of thousands of people from all over Texas come here every summer to go tubing on the rivers in New Braunfels. New Braunfels is also home to Schlitterbahn, rated by the Travel Channel as America's best waterpark. Other than that, the only major outdoor activity that San Antonio is really known for would be the Riverwalk. It's a beautiful stretch of the San Antonio River in downtown SA that's very beautiful and is lined with many shops and restaurants. You can take a boat tour in this area as well or rent a paddle boat. Nearby Austin also has many opportunities for outdoor adventure. Barton Springs is a spring-fed swimming pool run by the city. Also, Lake Travis is a huge, clean lake to the west of the city with ample boating and fishing opportunities. Lake Travis is also home to Hippie Hollow, Texas' only legally-sanctioned, clothing-optional beach (well, it's not truly a beach - there's no sand - but there's no shortage of large flat rocks to lounge on). Austin's about an hour northeast of SA on I-35. To get to Lake Travis/Hippie Hollow, take I-35 north to Austin. Exit at HWY 71 (Ben White Blvd) and turn left (a new interchange was under construction last time I was there so it may just be a matter of taking the right ramp). After a couple of miles, HWY 71 splits off to the left. Follow the signs for "Capital of Texas Highway," HWY 360. This is a gorgeous drive with great views of Austin. Continue until you pass over Lake Austin on the large Pennybacker Bridge (it's big - it's metal - it's impossible to miss). After the bridge, exit and turn left onto HWY 2222. Then just follow the signs.

People participating in summer luge as a form of recreation, in the Vosges.

Recreation or fun is the expenditure of time in a manner designed for therapeutic refreshment of one's body or mind. While leisure is more likely a form of entertainment or rest, recreation is active for the participant but in a refreshing and diverting manner. As people in the world's wealthier regions lead increasingly sedentary life styles, the need for recreation has increased. The rise of so called active vacations exemplifies this.

[edit] recreation is the worst thing for fat people because then it can get them worked up and they might lose weight.

[edit] Health

A few individuals view recreation as largely non-productive, even trivial. Excessive recreation is not considered healthy, and may be labeled as escapism. However, research has shown that recreation contributes to satisfaction, and that the stress management aspects of it contribute to quality of life, health and wellness, and that the use of recreation as a diversion may have clinical applications to individuals with chronic pain and other health impairments. In some cultures and religions, recreation is encouraged on certain days and discouraged on others. For example, in Judaism, the Shabbat is a day for recreation and relaxation; some Christian churches use the Sabbath. However, others interpret the Sabbath to be a day of worship, in lieu of recreation.

Recreation is one (not the only) kind of stress management. According to research cited in Time magazine, stress is a major factor in many of the leading causes of death in the United States.[1]

[edit] Recreation as a career

Becoming a recreation specialist often requires a bachelor of arts degree in recreation management. A recreation specialist would be expected to meet the recreational needs of a community or assigned interest group. People with such degrees often work in parks and recreation centers in towns, on community projects and activities. Networking with instructors, budgeting, and evaluation of continuing programs are common job duties. Most U.S. states have a professional organization for continuing education and certification in recreation management. The National Recreation and Park Association administers an examination called the CPRP (Certified Park and Recreation Professional) that is considered a national standard for professional recreation specialist practices.[2]

[edit] Examples

In recent years, more exciting forms of recreation have received more attention, such as skiing, snowboarding, bungee jumping, sky diving, hang gliding, paintball, rock climbing, backpacking, canyoning, caving, BASE jumping, adventure tourism and motor sport.
