Q.How do I color night scenes with colored pencils?Related Search:
Drawing & Illustration
I have an idea for an art piece and I can't get it out of my mind, however it is a night scene/dark lighting heavy shadows. I use colored pencils for all of my art (Prisma Color) and I think I'm fairly decent. My main question is; is there a tutorial out there on the web (I've searched with the tags night scenes, heavy shadow, dark scenes and colored pencil, tutorial) with not so good results. Can anyone help me out?
A.There are a lot of tutorials out there, but not many on the specific topic of dark/night scenes. I found one person who has a lot of different tutorials and has a night scene showing in their gallery. My recommendation is to look through the tutorials and if you still have questions send the artist a note. Almost every artist will be happy to talk to you and explain how things are done. Here's the link: [Link] / Also you can browse the site for other colored pencil tutorials as there are many, but this one person just seemed to have a TON on one page so I thought it your best first choice. As for what I do for colored backgrounds at night, I use very dark purples and very dark blues using heavy pressure, with an occasional brown mixed in, rarely do I actually use black. The reason is an artist I admire who drew super heroes some of which wore black costumes, never used black to make the costumes just dark other colors and the images were so much richer because of it. And layering the colors is very important. I hope that helps!

Q.What should I do if there is a 1/4 inch piece of graphite under my skin?Related Search:
Skin Conditions
I got stabbed with a pencil last night and got a quarter inch piece of graphite stuck in my skin. It still hurts pretty bad. Should I go to the doctor to get it removed, will it come out on its own or should I just leave it? Btw its on my palm
A.Clean it with alcohol and treat it like any other splinter: Pick it out with a sterilized needle, then apply antisceptic and let it heal. People confuse pencil lead and the metal lead. They are not the same. Pencil lead is graphite, which doesn't react with your body. The metal lead, can react with your body, if it is absorbed or eaten, inhaled as powder, or gets in your bloodstream some othe way. There are people who have been shot with lead bullets which, for some reason, could not be removed and the body just coats it with scar, and they don't get any more effect than physical insult.

Injuries
and I'm a little concerned. I was slightly inebriated and I was trying to spear an apple onto this pencil so i put the pencil on the ground and tried to push the apple onto it and the pencil went straight through the apple and swoosh, into my palm. It went like, up to the yellow part i think, so it's pretty deep. It's not bleeding anymore and my less drunk friend got me cleaned up right away (peroxide, gauze, tape, water, etc) but today my whole hand is sore, like i can't write or turn doorknobs or turn my key in the lock or carry things or play drums without being in excruciating pain. How long will this pain last? I have a rugby game on Saturday, will I be able to play? Also, the actual wound kind of burns. Like, my hand is always hot. But I keep putting neosporin on it and I'm not exposing it to anything or whatever. Could it be infected? Please help.
A.Piercing injuries can cause a great deal of soreness, and the site of the injury can be hot to the touch. The length of time that it will be sore depends on the extent of the injury that the pencil caused. If you were able to see "yellow parts" (which is adipose tissue), you may need stitches for it to heal properly. I doubt that it's infected this early, but keep an eye out for redness or cloudy discharge coming from the wound (some pink or orange-tinged fluid is normal, but if it isn't clear, this could signify infection). Neopsorin is a good thing, but you should also keep the wound clean with antibacterial soap (Dial is best) and water several times a day. Don't use deodorant soap...this can irritate the tissue. As for pain, try applying ice to your hand every 3 hours for no more than 20 minutes at a time. An anti-inflammatory like Advil or Motrin will also do wonders for you. Best of luck.

For the film, see Night of the Pencils (film) (1986).

The Night of the Pencils (in (Spanish: ''La Noche de los Lápices''), was a series of kidnappings and forced disappearances, followed by the torture, rape, and murder of a number of young students during the last Argentine dictatorship (known as the National Reorganization Process). The kidnappings took place over the course of several days beginning on September 16, 1976.

[edit] Causes

The victims were for the most part militants or ex-militants belonging to the "Union of High School Students of La Plata" (Union de Estudiantes Secundarios de La Plata, or UES). This student organization, along with other organizations, had been active in protesting and demanding a series of student benefits, mainly free public student transportion, from the Argentine Minister of Public Works.

These circumstances, in conjunction with the testimony of one of the survivors, Pablo Díaz, are widely believed to validate the hypothesis that the kidnappings were a direct consequence of these protests and activism. However, it is the belief of other survivors, such as Emilce Moler, that the student's benefits' demands had no direct bearing on the kidnappings, but rather it was the mere fact that the students were considered to be "militant" by the military regime that was the catalyst for the kidnappings and detentions.[1]

Jorge Falcone, the brother of one of the kidnapped students, Maria Claudia, has maintained that her activities against the military dictatorship went beyond student protests, and that on the day she was kidnapped she was hiding weapons in her aunt's residence and was prepared to use them. [2]

He also defended his sister's commitment to the Montoneros guerrilla movement in Argentina:

"My sister wasn't Little Red Riding Hood who the wolf gulped down. She was a revolutionary militant. […] The militant was the type who in a moment could send a molotov flying in a lightning act... They could also carry out support action in a major military operation."[3]

[edit] The kidnappings

The victims were 10 students, mainly current or former activists and members of the High School Student Union of the city of La Plata, who had been demanding the creation of a free travel pass. Such demands were deemed subversive by the dictatorship. The students were held for months in several illegal detention centers, where they were tortured, some of them raped, and ultimately presumed murdered. Only 4 of the 10 students are known to have survived. The other six, according to testimony by survivor Pablo Diaz, were executed sometime during the first week of January, 1977. [4] The kidnapped students were:

The story of the students from their kidnapping until their death or release was depicted by the 1986 film Night of the Pencils, directed by Héctor Olivera.

The testimony of Pablo Díaz, the last survivor to be released, served as the basis for a song with the same title by Canarian singer Rogelio Botanz.
