| Q. | What were some typical or prized Christmas gifts of past decades? (20's through the 50's)? | Related Search: Christmas | | | I'm writing an article for my school newspaper about how Christmas has changed into such a commercialized holiday. I need to draw a comparison between now and a time in the past, preferably somewhere in the decades listed above. Any and all information is greatly appreciated. (:
Happy Holidays.
| | A. | i have newspapers from the early 30's and on the front page during xmas time they had a wishlist for kids. The main wish was fruit. They also asked for a ball, a doll, and a nut basket. Sometimes chocolate and a wagon which then would have been high priced. Geez a Wii with 2 games controllers chargers etc for the kids this year seems kind of small. | | | |
| Q. | How would you define the power ballad? And List some good ones by decades...? | Related Search: Rock and Pop | | | You know, those songs that hard rock/metal bands tend to do. Some good, some cheesy, and some getting overplayed to hell.
How would you define the term "power ballad" and give some good examples of such ballads over the decades.
I was wondering myself about Stairway to Heaven. But what about other heavy metal bands?
| | A. | Power Ballads are like rock or hard metal songs that explore the love or heartbrake theme
and November Rain- Gun N Roses is the best one I've heard as well as Sweet Child O' Mine, What it takes by Aerosmith

| Q. | Can you add to this list of things Americans have feared over the decades? | Related Search: Other - Social Science | | | Vietnam, oil embargo, Cold War, Nuclear War, AIDS, Ebola, Y2K, terrorism, recession/depression
Seems like we live in a constant state of fear, always using the term "times like these".
| | A. | Unquestionably, the world has gotten more dangerous and less simple.
I could add other dangers but don't want anyone to faint. But to answer your question, there is poisoning of the air, poisoning of the water, a poor economy, terrorists caught working within the US, war on two fronts against terrorism or dictator regimes in Iraq and Afghanistan, militarism of North Korea and Iran. Heavy immigration into the US diminishing the resources we have, diversified opinion about any issue in the US (i.e.abortion), a split in opinions along Democratic and Republican ideologies, high unemployment, loss of jobs overseas, a falling dollar value, high inflation nuclear proliferation worldwide. Then there are diseases that resist treatment: a MSRA skin virus, AIDS, etc. The price of cars in a failing auto market are astronomical, bank failures and bank loans have tanked.
Other than that everything is hunky-dory.
We also haven't caught Ben Ladinand and his number one deputy. | | | |
