| Q. | How much do accountants get paid at Jet Propulsion Laboratory? | Related Search: Physics | | | I know the engineers get paid a good amount of money, but what is the median base salary for people working in the financial department of Jet Propulsion Laboratory?
| | A. | GS scale

A college grad in accounting probably starts at GS 9 or so.
| Q. | Jet Propulsion Lab NASA advice? | Related Search: Astronomy & Space | | | Is there a e-mail address for the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory where someone can ask questions? Specifically looking for tech advice for fiction writing.
Any way around that? Any way I can REALLY talk to someone there?
| | A. | Their site's feedback pages says:
"Due to the volume of mail, we generally are not able to respond individually."
There are some good space tech forums on the web, if you look around for them. That might be your best shot.
| Q. | Movie about an atomic bomb that shifted Earth's axis and sent us spinning into the sun- is that happening now? | Related Search: Earth Sciences & Geology | | | Richard Gross, a Nasa research scientist at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California, said the Chile quake has shifted the Earth's axis. The quake, the most powerful to hit the nation in 50 years, sent shockwaves out from the epicentre 70 miles from Chile's second city, Concepcion.
| | A. | The Indian Ocean earthquake of 2004 actually shifted the earth's axis more. It happens all the time with large earthquakes, but it's nothing to worry about. The Chile earthquake only shortened a day by 1.26 microseconds. That's 1.26 millionths of a second. That means it will take around 2000 years until we've managed to lose a whole second. | | | |
| Q. | where can i find free pictures of animals for my book in which the photographer already gives permission? | Related Search: Photography | | | like nasa and jet propulsion laboratory allows you to just cite them as a source. you do not need to ask for permission or pay for the photo.
is there any sites that do this for animal pictures?
| | A. | There is a big difference between NASA which is a governmental organisation which is totally funded by you the taxpayer and a wildlife photographer who is struggling to make a living.
You will very very rarely find any images which can be used in a commercial manner for free.
I know of no wildlife photographers who put copyright free images up for use in other peoples books or the like.
| Q. | When i grow up...i want to work at NASA, but I am a little confused on what to do.? | Related Search: Astronomy & Space | | | What do the people at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (sp?) do?
What are the different jobs availible there?
I was also thinking about being an astronaut.
One of the req. is to have a degree in something....like engineering.
Say i did engineering and the follow-ups, what would be some other options outside of NASA that would work?
| | A. | Don't listen to Kiss's attitude. (But his advice is a bit sound - check with some other sources than just this answers board)
What's truly exciting for your generation is the possibility of other space jobs than just NASA and its contractors. There's a good bit of interest in space travel by the private sector - meaning companies such as Virgin Galactic, Bigelow Aerospace, and others.
No matter where you end up working, if you want to be in Aerospace, you'll need to focus on science and math in school. Take every advanced course in math and science that your schools offer. You should be able to get as far as Calculus and Physics in any decent school program. Make sure that your parents are involved in your education. Have them take you to museums, science expos, the library, etc.
If you love learning, then you're on the right track. Learn just for the joy of learning - that's what I do now - my career has long since been set for me, but I still love reading about space, astronomy, physics, and all of that stuff. The more you enrich yourself, the easier it will be for you to succeed.
Another option that hasn't been mentioned is military service - especially the Air Force. My uncle was in the Air Force, and ended up working at NASA for a private contractor, and was responsible for the cameras and timing equipment.
| Q. | Has the NEW EVIDENCE produced the SHROUD OF TURIN IS REAL!? | Related Search: Religion & Spirituality | | | Much of the new scientific evidence has risen from the "Shroud of Turin Research Project" or STURP, a highly respected group of scientists who have dedicated themselves to uncovering the scientific mysteries of the Shroud. STURP members are from these organizations:
Lockheed Corporation
U.S. Air Force Weapons Laboratories
Brooks Institute of Photography
Texas, Medical Examiner's Office
Oceanographic Services Inc
University of Colorado
Los Alamos National Scientific Laboratories
IBM
Western Connecticut State University
Nuclear Technology Corporation
Los Angeles County Museum
St. Agnes Medical Center
Oriel Corporation
Rocky Mountain Thermograph
New England Institute
U.S. Air Force Academy
Jet Propulsion Laboratory
Sandia Laboratories
Santa Barbara Research Center
Barrie Schwortz Studios
The STURP team has revealing astounding data that now has convinced many scientists of the miraculous origin of the image. No medieval artist or alchemist could have produced the results present in the Shroud. Research so far has proven that:
The Shroud behaves as a photographic negative.
The Shroud encodes three-dimensional (3-D) data which corresponds to a three-dimensional body.
The image is without substance (not painted on), but rather is due to a chemical change within the linen itself.
The image exhibits clear evidence of rigor mortis with no evidence of decomposition of the body, suggesting the body image occurred no later than 36 hours after death.
The Shroud image exhibits anatomical structures clearly not in contact with the cloth and some skeletal structure, e.g., thus suggesting a type of autoradiograph (X-Ray image).
Medical radiation imaging has, by far, come the closest to reproducing the totality of the image. Yet, the Shroud image remains an unduplicatable mystery.
Much of the recent research on the Shroud of Turin has been focused on the determination of "how the image could have formed on the linen" and of "what type of radiation could have formed the image"? The answer to the first question of how the image formed on the linen was fairly evident. In addressing the second question of "what type of radiation formed the image", there are various natural and supernatural theories that have risen in attempting to solve this scientific mystery. Research indicates the unknown radiation is "biophysical" in its nature. Knowledge of such "biophysical radiation" is currently beyond our scientific understanding.
The scientific evidence revealed in the image scorched on the Shroud of Turin certainly eludes to the miraculous resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth and provides a tremendous witness to Jew and Gentile alike of God's omnipotence and Jesus divine nature.

Pope Benedict XVI announced today that there will be a new public exhibition of the Shroud of Turin in the spring of 2010! This is very good news, especially for those of us who might not have been able make it until 2025, when the next exhibition was originally planned.
Why would I ever trust some site called STRAIGHT DOPE??? I trust GOD and what he says not dopes..Science is just proving what GOD has always known
Mother Nature_ I too believe this is Jesus Christ I see it and feel it when I look upon it...
| | A. | Crimmy, I believe the Shroud of Turin may truly be the shroud of Jesus Christ. When I picture the Resurrection of Jesus, I envision a tremendous burst of energy coming from within Him. This would explain the mystery of the image. In my opinion, this relic was purposely left as physical proof of the Resurrection of Jesus. | | | |
