Q.can i put a fluorescent light bulb in a incandescent bulb fixture?Related Search:
Maintenance & Repairs
hey so my fish aquarium right now has a 15w incandescent light bulb in it, can i buy a fluorescent 15w (or less) light bulb to repalce it? or can an incandescent fixture only house incandescent bulbs?
A.I have not seen flourescent light bulb rated for fish tank that screw in regular incandescent bulb base. They make the flourescent light hoods which is what you should do. If you use one of the flourescent 15w replacements they sell for regular incandescents in the house you will also find the light level equal to about a 60watt light bult.

Q.Incandescent Light Bulb Ban In The US?Related Search:
Do It Yourself (DIY)
How do you feel about the incandescent light bulbs being banned in the us by 2012. I have several compact florescent bulbs in my lamps that are shaped like incandesents, and I love them, but there are some fixtures that require incandescent bulbs in my house and it would be too costly to replace the fixtures over a bulb, plus walk in closets a compact florescent would not work, because you would have to wait for it to warm up so you can see your clothes.
A.The reason the government picked 2012 is because that's when the world comes to an end, they know it's a stupid law too. The new bulbs suck and will only save energy if you live in a cave. If they were serious about energy usage they would outlaw appliances and power tools. Want low light with no bulbs? Put a TV or a computer in every room and leave them on. Be sensible, stock up on the old bulbs. Government regulations and 'green idiots' will be our demise.

Q.Is there anything harmful in an incandescent light bulb?Related Search:
Other - Home & Garden
Hey guys, I had an incandescent light bulb break on me today. Is there anything dangerous (chemicals, materials) that could injure me? Also, there were little pieces of brown material (solid) near the fixture of the bulb. What are those? Also, is there mercury in an incandescent light bulb?
A.Nothing harmful except the glass. brown thing could be rust. CFL's have a small amount of mercury but not enough to be really harmful. My Electric Cooperative states not to touch broken CFL's with bare hands. Sweep (not vacuum) the glass up and dispose of in a closed container.

Q.What should I put on my fact sheet about the incandescent light bulb?Related Search:
Physics
I am doing a fact sheet on the incandescent light bulb for history class and I need some ideas for facts. I wrote about all of the parts and about Thomas Edison. Is there anything that I have missed?
A.You could mention the fact that over half of the energy consumed generates heat rather than light, so as light sources they are very inefficient.

Q.The filament in an incandescent light bulb is made from tungsten. The light bulb is plugged into a 120-V outle?Related Search:
Physics
The filament in an incandescent light bulb is made from tungsten. The light bulb is plugged into a 120-V outlet and draws a current of 1.65 A. If the radius of the tungsten wire is 0.00266 mm, how long must the wire be?
A.Knowns: V=120V I=1.65A p=5.6e-8 ohm*m A=(pi)2.66e-6^2 (pi r squared)=2.22e-11 Unknown: L Equations: R=V/I R=p(L/A) therefore: V/I=p(L/A) rearrange: L=VA/PI plug-in: L=(120*2.22e-11)/(5.6e-8*1.65) L= .0288m

Q.How are you able to connect a 9V battery to a regular household incandescent light bulb with p/n copper wire?Related Search:
Engineering
I am doing a science project, but I don't know where or how to connect the positively-charged and negatively-charged copper wire onto an incandescent light bulb (that usually goes into lamps). I am able to do it with a light emitting diode, but I can't seem to find out. If you could tell me, I would greatly appreciate it. :)
A.There are two connections on the cap. If it is a screw cap the screw is one and the lead dot on the end is the other. If it is bayonet there are two lead dots on the end, the cap does nothing. A 9volt supply will do nothing for a mains bulb and it does not matter which way round the neg and pos go on an incandescent bulb. These bulbs are made to run at mains voltages so please do NOT try it with mains, unless you know what you are doing you will kill yourself.

Q.What are possible reasons for a flickering incandescent light bulb?Related Search:
Maintenance & Repairs
We have an incandescent bulb in our spare room that has started flickering and going out after a period of time (it could take 10 minutes or so at first, but if you turn it off and on immediately after it won't stay on for more than a few seconds). It seems to be isolated to that one fixture, but I haven't tested all the outlets in the room to be sure. What are possible causes for this and will I need an electrician in to fix it? Thanks.
A.SCREW THE BULB IN TIGHTER----ALSO WHEN THE SOCKET IS EMPTY UNPLUG AND LOOK DOWN INTO BASE OF SOCKET USE A VERY FINE SAND PAPER TO UNDO CORROSION---MAKING BETTER CONTACT IT WILLSTAY ON...........
