Languages | | | I know there are dozens of languages in India. I am just learning the basics of the Devangari script right now so before I get in too deep I want to know if Hindi is the right language for what I want to do. I want to travel (possibly immagrate) to India to encorage a return to indegienous forms of agriculture, fight for land reform, and discourage people from immatating the doomed western culture that is the habit of former collunies.
or does anyone think that there would be another language suited to my needs or should I try and learn more than one.

Actually,knowing English is sufficient in most of India's urban areas.But,if you are planning to work on land reforms etc,you may have to go to rural areas where knowing Hindi and other local languages r a must. Alternatively,you can communicate with the help of a translator.

origin of both persian and Hindi is different.
hindi is originated from sanskrit.
But from persian originated urdu language. . and urdu and Hindi were in very close contact during time of mughal emperors about 500 years ago. So a lot of words from urdu (which originally originated from persian) were adapted into Hindi.
The Hindi we speak today is not the original Hindi.

So in such circumstances why not INDIA should start "TEST OF HINDI AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE" (TOHFL) for foreign students in INDIA ? It should be mandatory for all foreigners in india for better communication in HINDI........
