Q.What theories can economics draw upon to evaluate Health care reforms?Related Search:
Economics
Hi, I am a stduent studying Health Economics. I am just wondering what kind of economic theories we can use when evaluating the health care system reform such as NHS reform. Please let me know if you have any idea and thanks for reading!
A.New economic anomalie - Benign deflation (falling prices due to falling percentage of fixed costs to actual end price. Constant demand for a product gives the producer of the product the ability to produce it in greater quantity while keeping fixed overhead prices the same. Thus, the producer can offer the product at a lower price.) could be your economic principle at work in the future. As it applies to healthcare, the competition of government subsidized healthcare at reduced cost would drive most customers to the least expensive care. giving more HC professionals the incentive to join the govt. program. This lowers the cost to the govt. to attract these professionals which lets them reduce costs further which attracts more customers from the private sector which makes it more difficult for the private HC providers to make a profit which drives them into the arms of the govt. which drops costs further which attracts more customers and so on and so forth until it becomes commonplace for people to use govt. HC and it pretty much becomes a part of our society except for the very wealthy. Govt HC will be better quality and the need for private insurance will be next no nil, thus reducing it's cost and it can better focus it's resources on quality of care.

If we assume that they are even proportion then Funded: Q=3; P=50 Paying: Q=2; P=60 ii) Funded: Q=2; P=60 Paying: Q=2; P=60 P.S. Actually all there is messed up in initial task - we don't know if both markets follow the same demand and cost patterns, thus some elements of total cost may be double-counted and marginal cost may follow different pattern. So just give more assumption for this task to solve it right. Provide more details how these patients are differentiated (at least by costs if they follow the same demand).

Q.Is health care economics good if it saves money (which can be spent on patients meeting QALY criteria) ?Related Search:
Economics
If cattle cars could be stocked with willing patients and this happened to be a "good" "economics" solution, would "health care economics" recommend this solution ? Obviously not. But is there a "monte carlo" component in health care economics, that comes up with various "solutions" and if no-one complains too much, implements the most "economic" solutions. I'm unclear what would rule out the "cattle cars headed for Auschwitz" solution if it was attractively disguised.
A.I am pretty sure people will complain about cattle cars or other form of inferior treatment. Besides activists like yourself, there will be plenty of medical professionals and pharmaceutical companies saying that people aren't getting the best possible treament. So just like in many other markets, level of service is determined by equilibrium between doctors who want more treatment, and insurance companies who want less.
