| | A. | I worked at a waterpark, and the one they always used was, "No one drowns, not today, not in my pool." | | | |
| Q. | does anyone know of any online/distance degrees or diplomas on occupational health and safety? | Related Search: Higher Education (University ) | | | I am currently working as a ohs officer and would like to do some more qualifications. Online or distance education would be better as i dont have time to go to classes and more uni classes arnt offered at night. I am after a degree in occupational therapy or occupational health & safety. Or a diploma in OH&S.
| | A. | I would stick with traditional colleges that also offer online courses and steer clear of those online, for profit schools such as university of phoenix, strayer, ITT tech, capella as former students of u of phoenix started: [Link]
You may already know, but occupational therapy and occupational health are two separate fields albeit the ot wants his or her patients to be 'safe and healthy' :) And just fyi, ot is very competitive to gain entry into with the prospective student needing a 4.0 gpa in prereq courses as well as overall gpa. For general career info: [Link] and can search occupational therapists, occupational health and safety specialists or registered nurse (RN's may eventually get job in occupational health).

| Q. | Are there any health & safety issues with serving fruit crumble cooked in a foil container to children? | Related Search: Cooking & Recipes | | | I have to cook for fifteen 7-10 year old girls and have been told that I cannot serve fruit crumble in a foil container for health & safety reasons. Obviously it would be preferable to cook and serve the food from a disposable foil container so I need to check if there could be a problem with this. Has anyone any advice please?
| | A. | Can't imagine why this would be a problem - supermarkets sell their own crumbles frozen in tin foil trays and I am sure that if there were a health and safety problem with it we would have had 30 government advisers on the news telling us so.
Good luck with the meal and the kids - I hope you are not doing this single handedly - then there might be a few health and safety issues - your health and their safety when you lose it!!!!!
| Q. | If you were a member of the Health & Safety Executive, what things would you try to ban? | Related Search: Other - News & Events | | | The latest casualty of health & safety laws has been a pancake race. Where (and when) will it all end, I wonder.
| | A. | I would ban people from opening envelopes for fear of them suffering a life threatening paper cut on their pinkies.
Addition.
This reminded me of an email:
According to today's regulators and bureaucrats, those of us who were kids in the 50's, 60's, 70's and even early 80's probably shouldn't have survived, because:
Our baby cots were covered with brightly coloured lead-based paint which was promptly chewed and licked.
We had no child-proof lids on medicine bottles, or latches on doors or cabinets and
it was fine to play with pots and pans.
When we rode our bikes we wore no helmets, just flip-flops and fluorescent 'spokey dokey's' on our wheels
As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags - riding in the passenger seat was a treat.
We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle and it tasted the same... strange how water tastes just like ....well ...water!
We ate chips, bread and butter pudding and drank fizzy juice with sugar in it, but we were never overweight because we were always outside playing.
Your mother MADE ice pops out of diluted orange drinks.
We shared one drink with four friends, from one bottle or can and no one actually died from this.
We would spend hours building go-carts out of scraps and then went top speed down the hill, only to find out we had forgotten the brakes.
After running into stinging nettles a few times we learned to solve the problem (dock leaves).
We would leave home in the morning and could play all day, as long as we were back before it got dark. No one was able to reach us and no one minded.
We did not have Play stations or X-Boxes, no video games at all. No 99 channels on TV, no videotape movies, no surround sound, no mobile phones, no personal computers, no DVDs and no Internet chat rooms.
We had friends - we went outside and found them.
We played football and rounder’s every summer, and sometimes that ball really hurt!
We fell out of trees, got cut and broke bones but there were no lawsuits.
We had full on fistfights but no prosecution followed from other parents.
We played knock-on-the-door-and-run-away and were actually afraid of the owners catching us.
We WALKED, yes walked to friends' homes.
We also believe it or not, WALKED to school; we didn't rely on mummy or daddy to drive us to school - which was just round the corner
We made up games with sticks and tennis balls
We rode bikes in packs of 7 and wore our coats by only the hood (kind of like a cape, looked cool when you went really fast).
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke a law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law.
This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers and problem solvers and inventors, ever. The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all.
Pass this on to others who have had the luck to grow as real kids, before lawyers and government regulated our lives, for our own good.
| Q. | How would you train and inform your staff about Occupational Health Safety and Security? | Related Search: Higher Education (University ) | | | How would you train and inform your staff about Occupational Health Safety and Security
| | A. | I would do it as quickly and consisely as possible, and make sure the instructor has a vibrant manner and is engaging and charismatic if possible. We all know that OHS&S is the most excruciatingly boring thing to have to sit through and it's very hard to pay attention for too long. I would break it up into short sessions so people a) don't dread it too much and b) actually absorb the information rather than falling asleep : )
Trust me I have to study OH&S each year of my degree and it is the WORST! The lecturer has the most boring voice and has no charisma and it's near impossible to stay awake.
| Q. | Whats the Health & Safety requirements for a new build site.? | Related Search: Small Business | | | I'm building a new house on some land and I was wondering what sort of health & safety procedures are needed for the site. It mainly has subcontractors as well as two of our own staff on site.
| | A. | This site should help.

I know you need hard hats and secure fencing round the site and if you have a certain amount of people on site at anyone time you have to have toilet and tea making facility's, no smoking signs, keep out signs etc. The sub contractor should be willing to help you with this one as its their safety as well.
