A.To answer your question: I had not seen the question before. I agree that Iran and its civilization are not well-known in the West, and that unfortunately their history has been overshadowed by their behavior since overthrowing the Shah. The Shah was a dictator who maintained his rule only through the support of the US and who bled his country dry. Anybody remember when he crowned his 3rd wife as Empress in 1967? What a party that was - and the expense was astronomical. He also did some good things for Iran. When Ayatollah Khomeini came to power in 1979, Iran did a 180 turn away from the West. 52 staff people at the US Embassy were held prisoner for 444 days, and things went downhill from there. Now Ayatollah Khamenei is the Supreme Leader and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (the guy who advocates "wiping Israel off the map") is the President. They have a rogue nuclear program and are developing long-range missiles. They are friendly with people known to be both hostile to the West and actively involved in terrorist activities against the West. Not easy folks to try to engage in dialogue. That said, their civilization is at least 6000 years old (one of the oldest in the world), and justifiably famous for its art, poetry, architecture and science. It is well worth getting to know in greater detail. It's unlikely that there will be any kind of meeting of the minds between those who support the Iranian Revolution and those who support the West in my lifetime (I'm almost 60), but that should not prevent us from studying this most remarkable culture in all its many aspects. I encourage you to follow some of the links listed in the question.

A.I listened to two songs, and found them to be nice club/dance examples. Nothing very earth-shattering and it sounds like all the other euro-pop I've ever heard. I lived in Europe for 2 1/2 years and got a taste of what the discos play and this seems to fall in line with what I heard there. What happened to the great classical Iranian music??? Is it still strong? That music distinguished itself and possessed intelligence and beautiful construction. The rhythms were complex and changing and showed remarkable artistry. I hope that the tradition is still alive and well!

Farangis or Farigees (Persian:فرنگیس) is a female character in the Persian epic Shahnameh. She is the eldest daughter of Afrasiab, king of Turan. She is also the second and favourite wife of Siavash, the saintlike prince of Iran (Siavash's first wife was Juraira daughter of Piran Viseh) and mother of a legendary hero and later Shah of Iran, Kai Khosrow. Although a Turanian by birth, Farangis shows loyalty to her husband's kingdom and dynasty. She accompanies her son when he leaves Turan in the hopes of gathering an Iranian army to avenge Siyavash.

After the murder of her husband Sia‏vash and being left with her son Kai Khosrow, Farangis, mourns for him a year. The dignitaries at the court of King Kavus try to console her. They promise that her brother-in-law Fariborz will avenge the murder of his brother. Further, they present Fariborz as a suitable husband for her. Aided by Rostam, Fariborz takes Farangis to his seraglio.
