| Q. | How do I create a page on wikipedia that is already taken? | Related Search: Wikipedia | | | I am trying to create a page on wikipedia but something of the same name is already taken. I know it is a disambiguation and I would like to make it so.
| | A. | Say the page "Orange", for example, is already created about the colour, but you wanted to create a page about the fruit. You'd got through the normal process of creating a page except name the page "Orange (fruit)". That's just an example, of course.
If the new page you're making is less notable than the one already there, add a "see also" note at the top of the first page. If you believe the two pages to be roughly equal in notability, you could move the first to "Orange (color)" and name (and create) the second as "Orange (fruit)", while leaving the page "Orange" to link to both of them, saying something along the lines of:
"Orange may refer to: Orange (color) or Orange (fruit)"
with appropriate links.
If you're moving a page which people might disagree with, consider suggesting it at [Link] .
| Q. | How long does it take "What Links Here" page to update? | Related Search: Wikipedia | | | I'm working on a non-Wikipedia wiki. I needed to move some pages so I could turn them into a Disambiguation page.
For example, the content from "Hats" is on the newly created page "Hats_(red)", and the "Hats" page now links to "Hats_(red)", "Hats_(blue)" and "Hats_(green)". I also changed the Template that uses "Hats" into "Hats_(red)".
Unfortunately, the template is used on pretty much every page, and even though it's been updated the "What links here" page for "Hats" hasn't updated, and I'm trying to figure out what else I need to redirect.
You see?
| | A. | Have your wiki administrator check whether the "job queue" is enabled and the setting of config variable $wgJobRunRate. The job queue is how "what links here" gets updated for articles which have many links, like more than 500, or 5000 depending on the wiki's configuration. See [Link] The configuration variable indicates how much is done during each non-batch request.
If the wiki is configured correctly, it could be there isn't enough wiki activity for the job queue to run. Do some null edits to give it a chance to update. See [Link]
| Q. | Several Questions about Wiki-Editing? | Related Search: Wikipedia | | | All questions are about a Wikia site, not Wikipedia.
1: I had to move an article to a new location, and turn the old article into a Disambiguation page. The old article is used in a Template and appears on almost every single page. The template links are updated, but the "Links Here" section still lists everything on the Disambiguation page.
2: Some Wikias have Badges that you earn. For instance if you visit the Wikia called "Death Spank" it gives you a badge saying "Welcome to the Wiki".
3: I have sysop permission; is it possible for me to update the file myself from question 1, or do I need to ask the administrator? Also how and can I create badges from question 2?
| | A. | Wikia, Inc. is a private, commercial enterprise. Why would you come to a volunteer website and enter your question in the "Wikipedia" category, when Wikia.com has a staff of at least 30 people who are PAID TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS AS A CUSTOMER?
Seriously, the nerve of some people.

| Q. | If you are famous, can you choose to give out your real name? | Related Search: Celebrities | | | Okay, before you call me perverted - I was looking up the city Houston on Wikipedia, but then thought it interesting to look at the disambiguation. I came across a pornographic actress named Houston as well. I looked over her page and it said nothing as to her real name, and it was a pretty long article. So...if you are famous, do people have to know your REAL name?
| | A. | ok first off man chill out every one watches porn so chill
second you dont have to use a fake name but if u dont people will find out where you live n shit

| Q. | I'm looking for the MILITARY rank, GHO. Google fails. What is it? | Related Search: Military | | | I'm looking for the MILITARY rank, GHO. Google has failed me. Don't bother with Wikipedia's disambiguation either. I WROTE 99% of that page. I believe it might be General (something) Officer. I'm not sure. Please help. Thanks! ~~~~Knowl
No, its not a mistake. It is definately not a US rank. I believe it is PLA (People's Liberation Army) or PAP (People's Armed Police) in mainland (Red) China.
No, its not GHQ. Thanks.
| | A. | Can not find anything on that, and have never heard of it. What is a GHO? More info please.
I was thinking general housing officer, but thats not a military title, thats a civilian title. We always called quartering officers.
| Q. | Compilation "CM"- GEN. INFO. Resource Page, for "NEWBIES": all Regular PATRONS, please HELP? | Related Search: Classical | | | As many if not most regular patrons of this CM forum do, I love this genre; it's been and continues to be a main-stay of my life: an abiding interest, and a resource for spiritual rejuvenation and succor, which never fails me. And I want to propitiate, promote its appreciation in any way that I can.
The perpetual in and out flow of "Newbies" to this forum, presents such an opportunity. To take advantage of this, I'm compiling a CM.-GEN. INFO, Resource Page for their utilization; and am here requesting any of you Regular Patrons for aid/assistance/input in its design, and resource recommendations(it's meant to be easily accessible for posting as a response to any relevant inquiry). The following is the basic outline I've come up with so far:
(1) "where can I get FREE sheet music for (whatever type of instrument, say, "piano"(or orchestral score)?": LINK (repeat - FREE)???????
(2) "where can I find info. about--------------Mozart; Beethoven; Bach; etc., etc.; or any general information about CM?": I always provide this LINK: [Link] >)
(3) "where can I listen to classical music for FREE?" I always reference You Tube: [Link]
(4) "where can I download mp3?" LINK ???????
There are often other requests, for which I'm going to rely upon you who are much more knowledgeable than I to recommend.
This project is only in genesis form, obviously; so please, PLEASE, feel free to recommend any and all alterations/additions, you might consider to more helpful than the resources I've listed.
And if any of you should wish to resume responsibility for it, such a Project, again, PLEASE, feel free to inform me; I will be most happy to turn it over to you and/or assist you in anyway that I can.
Thank you,
Alberich
