Q.Swedish surname..please help?Related Search:
Languages
I am trying to find a friend on facebook i know his name but couldnt get his surname right.. Al i know is that it starts with ..sounds like "aust" or "aus" ..would this be an "os" if written in swedish. Any help would be appreciated even a list of surnames that start with "au"*
A.This is a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack but to help you start your search, here is a website with the surnames of all who live in Sweden. Obviously many of them are not traditional "Swedish" names since there are many immigrants who settle in Sweden, but at least you have a starting point. [Link] / SOME THINGS TO NOTE: The problem with trying to find a swedish name is that swedish is that the pronunciation is so different from English. You could look at those who begin with "Au" but please note that in Sweden the "au" is often pronounced as "ow"(as in the "ow" in "owl"). Eg. the name Aurelius is pronounced as "Owrelius" You could also look at names that begin with O but you need to be aware that the letter "o" in Swedish is sometimes pronounced as "O" as in "boss" or "OO" as in book. For example: the swedish word "topp" means "top" in English and is pronounced "top" the swedish word: "bok" means "book"in English and is pronounced "book". The pronunciation often depends on the letters that follow the "o". You could also look at surnames that begin with å / Å . This is the third last letter of the Swedish alphabet . The Swedish alphabet has 29 letters so "å" is the next letter after "z". It is pronounced as a "oh" as in "more" or "low". You could also try looking at surnames that begin with the Swedish letter "ö". "Ö" is the last letter of the Swedish alphabet and is pronounced a bit like the French "eu" as in "oeuf" (french word for egg) or "neuf" (french word for nine" The website that I have given you is written in Swedish. It gives extra information about the surnames. I've translated some of the information yyou might come across on the website. Det finns (number) som heter (name) i Sverige, vilket gör det till efternamn nr (number ) i popularitet. There are (number of people) who are called (name), which makes this surname number ---- in popularity. De som heter (surname) bor i (number) län. Those who are called (surname) live in (number eg. 5) counties Topp-län: (Top counties) Topp-kommuner (Top municipalities/local authorities)

Q.I need help with the pronounciation of some French phrases and words, please see!?Related Search:
Words & Wordplay
Hello. Please tell me how the following french words are pronounced ; 1) Bon Petit (is it bon appetit or bon petit?) 2)Piece de Resistance 3)Au Revoir 4)Machiavelli (its a surname. I m not sure if its french or not) 5)Bonjour I'll be grateful to you if you give me the accurate pronunciation and help me with my essays. All answers will be appreciated. Thank you.
A.ok, to start, it's bon appetit (like appetite - good appetite, eat well etc). french is much more nasal than english, wqhere we would pronounce bon with a hard 'n', the french is much softer and more nasal. pinch your nose and say 'bon'. sorry if this is too technical but this is the case if the word after 'bon' begins with a CONSONANT. if the following word begins with a VOWEL as is the case bon appetit, then the 'n' is much more pronounced. this makes the phrase flow much better. 'pis der ray-zis-tons' - make sure you roll the 'r' at the beginning of resistance. for some, it comes naturally, for others it can take alot of word. just keep practicing. 'oh reh-vwa' mak - ee - ya - vel - e - this is actually italian which is more of a phonetic language. boh jew - remember the nasal 'n', and also the 'j' is quite soft.

Q.Why do most Filipinos claim they are Spanish?Related Search:
Other - Cultures & Groups
Ive been browsing on questions about the Philippines culture and heritage on YA,and i keep seeing Filipinos saying false statements, like all of them are mixed with Spanish,American,Japanese, and that they shared the look/and are Hispanic people.Even here in the U.s, all the schools Ive been to, when it comes to the heritage,Cultural Topic,The majority of Filipinos Claim they are half Spanish,Yet i observe there Facial features, and find nothing near or close to a European/Spanish look nor Hispanic(100%looking Filipino).Just Because most of them have Spanish surnames,It doesn't mean all of them are descendants from the Spaniards.around 90% of the surnames were given to them by a book called the (Catálogo alfabético de apellidos) Filipinos share much close ties to the Malay race Culture(Indonesian,Malaysian etc),especially examining the Typical Filipino facial features its very similar to Indonesians and other Asians. There is even more Filipinos of Chinese descent than there are of Spanish descent,You can see alot of Chinese looking Filipinos(Chinos.) Upcourse Of 300 years of rule,There is a majority of Hispanic influence, especially the fact that most Filipinos are Roman Catholic ,the traditions,Celebrations and surnames Upcourse, SOME BASIC FACTS FOR FILIPINOS Only less than 3% have Spanish European Blood(Which includes Spanish,American,British, etc) Most Filipinos have Spanish Surnames... 90% was given to them when the Spaniards needed to setup the name system to develop the country..Traveling Town to Town,Villagers were lining up to pick a surname out of the book Book was called the (Catálogo alfabético de apellidos,) Its very easy to distinguish Hispanics from Filipinos... [Link]  And very easy to mistake a Filipino to Thais,South-East Asian people etc ..[Link]  Spanish people from (Spain) [Link]  Decided yet?If your Open minded, not ignorant and not trying to get a little fake exotic flavours flowing in the blood"then you can easily decide whom Filipinos identify more with" Dont get me wrong Im half Filipino/Half American myself, and i Love the Filipino ways,They are very kind, down to earth respectful people. Most Filipinos look a lot like eachother..But due to the mentality ,the public view is White skin is good, and you will see the Tv shows,Commercials and whitening skin products.I can say 90% of them are White skinned mixed looking Filipinas/Filipinos on the Television At the end of the day we are Filipinos (and nothing more)who take Pride in our culture, characteristics and way of life.
A.Yea i 100% agree with you! and your correct this goes for Filipinos living in Western countries(BTW,I'm half Filipino myself aswell,so me and you definitely know what we are talking about) Ive experienced what you've experienced..amongst many Filipinos and i just kinda Laugh at them when they say Ohhh yea I'm Spanish from my grandpa and Blah blah blah...and i just say "BUT YOU DON'T LOOK SPANISH" then i see there Grandparents, who look basically like Chinese-Filipinos(Chinos) then approach them, and ask them, then they start deny it that she said that. Honestly Filipinos don't look nothing near Hispanic,Latino nor Spanish! They look very similar to there neighbors in south east Asia like you said Indonesia,Malaysia,Thailand! They are part of the "Malay Race" or so called Austronesian peoples. If Filipinos really did look like the races of Spanish,Or Latino(Mixed) they would for the most part look half European/Spanish,Caucasian.In Latin America this is very evident ,and can easily be seen! Honestly,There's more Filipinos who look partly Chinese than there are who look Spanish..and don't forget that STATEMENT. Filipinos already had there Culture before the Spaniards arrived, and that Culture never died out,It is still largely present ,just try observing everything about us,our characteristics,Culture,Language,Food rice.!Unlike in South America most of there Culture died out!and Hispanic culture was established and influenced them alot!
