| Q. | Is the Aberystwyth train station near Aberystwyth university? Or would I have to get another train/bus? | Related Search: Rail | | | I have got an offer from Aberystwyth University and am planning to there in 2009. I was just checking some trains and found out that one train goes to Aberystwyth train station from Birmingham New Street. However, I was just wondering if the train station is near the actually university and if it is walking distance?
Thanks.
| | A. | It's about 800 metres. Aberystwyth's not a huge city! | | | |
| Q. | How difficult is it to get into Aberystwyth University? | Related Search: Higher Education (University ) | | | I am from the US and I am looking into going to Aberystwyth University.
Do you recommend it?
And also, I have taken eight AP classes, the rest honors, and I scored fairly well on the SATs. Is it possible/probable for me to get in?
| | A. | I got into their postgrad programme no problem (I had a 3.5 GPA average for my undergraduate studies). It is one of the original institutions, so it is up there in standards. I imagine their qualifications for getting into an undergrad course are just as competitive as a master's/PhD. | | | |

| | A. | Aberystwyth is the closest university, next closest is the University of Wales in Lampeter. Nearby ones include Cardiff, Glyndŵr University (Wrexham), University of Chester, University of Wales (Swansea) and the University of Worcester. With the exception of Lampeter, the rest are at least 2 hours drive away, longer by train or bus. | | | |

| Q. | What's geography and Welsh like in Aberystwyth university ? | Related Search: Higher Education (University ) | | | I'm still doing AS in college but just wondering what the courses are like in Aber uni..
| | A. | I'm not at Uni yet either, but I live in ABer and my dad teaches at the university.
I've heard that those courses are both pretty good. The general education at Aber isn't amazing though, mind. Student life is GREAT though. Lot of pubs and stuff.
| Q. | My son wants to go to University in Swansea or Aberystwyth? | Related Search: Swansea | | | Where are the best areas to buy a house in either town?
He will be 26 so doesn't want it too studenty.
I've no intention of following him.
Much as I love him I'll be glad to get rid of him for a while!
Thanks Raven Claw
That looks lovely.
Unfortunately, the Swansea my son is going to is the one in Wales UK.
| | A. | I'm a student in Aberystwyth, but I come from Ystalyfera near Swansea, so I'm the perfect person to answer this question!
Swansea:
It's more expensive than Aberystwyth, but not that much more. The areas most students go to are:
Treboeth
Tycoch
Morriston
Fforestfach
Felindre
Mumbles
Birchgrove
as the above person said. Also add to that list Brynmill and the Uplands. But take away Felindre, Fforestfach and Morriston unless he has a car, because they're on the outskirts of Swansea.
Mumbles can be more expensive than the others. None of the places are too studenty, they just have a lot of students living there. It's not like he's going to have people vomiting on his doorstep at 2AM like he would in a halls of residence.
These areas are pretty quiet, and areas like Brynmill, Uplands, Mumbles are great because they're right by the University and also by the beach.
Aberystwyth:
Wherever you go in Aber you'll find students living there. it's a small town. The population is only 8,000 when there aren't students here, but in term time it increases to 15,000.
If he's in search of somewhere less studenty, avoid the town centre. next year I'll be living on Park Avenue in a house for six. We've chosen it because it's away from all the pubs, so it's noise free. The football stadium's down the road. There's a supermarket across the road and we're only 5 minutes from the town centre.
It's a more studenty town, but I love it. It's a far better place to live than Swansea/
