Q.Is Single 1 tax status the same as being married, but withhold at a higher single rate?Related Search:
United States
I got married in Sept. 2006. My payroll changed my tax status to Married 1. I ended up owing the IRS in April, 2007. (My husband never changed his status from Single 1.) My accountant suggested that I file as Married, but withhold at a higher single rate. After a pay period or two, I noticed that my payroll dept. did not do this. They claimed that their paychex system does not have a check box for that option. They switched my status to Single 1. I feel that not only is too much money being withheld from my paycheck, but also, can't I get into trouble for filing as a Single 1 when I am married? Does anyone have any recommendations for how my husband and I should file? (Our accountant last year did a Married, filing separately return. My status was Married, 1 at the time. My husband was Single 1.) Thanks.
A."Married but withhold at the higher single rate" and "Single" are the same as far as withholding are concerned. There's nothing wrong with your withholding being done that way. It would only be a problem if you were to file a tax return as "Single". How you complete Form W-4 with your employer and how you file your tax return are separate and distinct issues. Don't confuse the two! What I would be more curious about is why your accountant filed your returns as Married Filing Separately. You'll normally pay more tax that way. Married Filing Jointly is how you would normally want to file as you'll pay less total tax that way unless you have a very unusual tax situation.

Q.How do I judge 1 to 1 1/2 inches of water for my tomato plants?Related Search:
Garden & Landscape
I've read that my tomato plants need 1 to 1 1/2 inches of water every week. How do I measure this? I live in So Cal so the only water these plants get is the water I put on them. I want to make sure I'm not over watering.
A.It's not necessary to try and measure the water amount. Just give them a good drink once a week and you will be fine. They are not that finicky. They will let you know if you've given them too much by splitting the fruit. If that happens just cut back on the amount of water you give them.

Q.How do I calculate 1/3 cup cooked pasta from uncooked?Related Search:
Cooking & Recipes
I want 1/3 cup cooked elbow macaroni. I can't figure out how much uncooked elbow macaroni to use. 1/3 cup equals one starch. I want to make a salad with fruit, vegetables, low fat mayo and artificial sweetener. The box of uncooked elbow macaroni says that 1/2 cup uncooked is 56 grams. My diet calls for 1/3 cup cooked and doesn't give it in grams. I'm terrible at math, and can't figure out how to calculate this. I've searched for conversion tables, but my search didn't produce anything. Can someone steer me in the right direction?
A.Pasta and rice both, depending on variety, absorb more or less two times their weight in water when they are cooked, in other words they approximately treble in volume. So for 1/3 cup cooked measure you need c1/9 cup (about two tablespoonfuls) dry. This is impractical to measure, especially with shapes like elbow which which can't be levelled smoothly as rice can. If I have calculated correctly, you need 12.5 grams of dry pasta. That's hardly worth cooking. It would be easier to cook a weighed amount, say 100g to make calculations easy, measure it when cooked (I would guess it comes to a bit under three cups), keep the result on file and use up the leftover macaroni in other recipes in the near future. Generally, it is more consistent to weigh ingredients than to measure by volume, a different shape would be a different volume, and it is easy to press cooked elbow and other hollow macaroni down into the cup to get more, but of course that defeats the purpose. Good luck with your diet.

Q.How many cups of water to 1 cup of rice when using a rice cooker?Related Search:
Cooking & Recipes
Is it 2 cups of water for 1 cup of rice or 1 cup of water for 1 cup of rice? I've been using 1 cup water and 1 cup of rice but my rice turns out crunchy.
A.You have to use 2 cups . Also you can add a little bit of oil so the rice doesn't stick

Q.What is a 1 and 1 free throw opportunity in basketball?Related Search:
Basketball
In high school basketball, what is the team foul limit? What exactly is a 1 and 1 free throw opportunity n how does it work?Where do the players on the court go or stand when the fouled person is shooting a free throw?
A.Idk about high school but i was the stats girl for middle school basketball..the team foul limit i think was 7... 1 and 1 occurs when the other team is over the foul limit they shoot one, if they make it they shoot another one. and when shooting a free throw they should stand around the box and the fouled person should be at the free throw line of course. :)

A.Probably 8 A softball size is a pound, working in a meat department many years.
